Bye Bye Bum

After 19 years of existence, the New Orleans Saints had yet to finish above .500. Bum Phillips resigned week 12, after an upset over Minnesota. his son Wade Phillips took over to finish out the season. Earl Campbell was given the starting job when George Rodgers was traded away during the off season to Washington. Earl only proved his best days were past as he managed only 1 TD all season long (643 yards rushing). Wayne Wilson led the team in rushing: 168 carries-645 yards. Team favorite Hoby Brenner led in receiving with 42 catches, 652 yards, 3 TDs. Dave Wilson's passing numbers were 293 attempts-145 completions-1843 yards and 11 TDs.

A few bright spots among this lackluster offense were home grown products WR Eric Martin (LSU) and QB Bobby Hebert (Northwestern Louisiana). Also, Kicker Morten Andersen nailed 89% of his fieldgoals (31 of 35) and scored 120 points on the year.
