Saints in Black Helmets

During the exhibition season of 1969, owner John Mecom had his Saints wearing unauthorized "Black" helmets.

Here running back Tony Lorick dons the controversial cap in preseason action against the Detroit Lions.

The helmets were replaced with the NFL sanctioned ones before the start of the season.
