Jake Delhomme scrambling against Baltimore
Who here remembers when Jake Delhomme played for the New Orleans Saints?
Jake had played in the NFL-Europe League before joining the Saints as a back-up in 1999. He led the Saints to big upset that year over Dallas, passing for 2 touchdowns and running for another.
By 2002, many fans were clamoring to bench starter Aaron Brooks and give Jake a chance to play. When Jake relieved an injured Brooks in the second half against Baltimore and played well enough to secure a win the controversy reached an almost fevered pitch. Head Coach Jim Haslett instead choose to stick with a sub-healthy Aaron Brooks rather than play Jake. The Saints lost the last 3 games of the season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
2003 saw Jake leave New Orleans and lead the Carolina Panthers to an NFC Division title and a Super Bowl appearance against New England.
