Ed Hargett - the Saints "Other" Quarterback in Action

Edd Hargett joined the Saints as a 16th round draft pick out of Texas A&M in 1969 and remained on the team until 1972. During his time he was almost exclusively in a back-up role, first to Billy Kilmer and then to Archie Manning. He did start a total of 8 games with The New Orleans Saints but only managed 1 win and 1 tie. Both came in 1971. The win was against John Brodie and the 17-point favored 49ers were he threw 3 touchdowns in a huge upset of San Francisco. Down 19-20, Ed Hargett, with just over 2 minutes left in the game, led the Saints offense on an 87-yard drive that ended with a 29-yard strike to Virgil Robinson. The tie came against the powerhouse Oakland Raiders were he hit tight end Dave Parks with the game-tying score with 13 seconds left. In 1973 he was traded Houston where he played for 1 season before he joined the WFL.

In the picture above we see Hargett getting heat from Ram rookie Isiah Robertson from Southern.
